Penang Botanical Garden

went with a collegue to try out his new S5IS. it's obviously a whole lot better than my puny A710IS, but i still wish for a Panasonic FZ50, if only i can afford it...

and btw, a replacement for A710IS, A720IS, has been announced by Canon recently - which means that my cam is EOL... not much difference though, it still uses the exact same lens, but with DIGIC III processor.

there's a lot of flowers on the cannonball trees (Couroupita guianensis) this time around, but hardly any fruits.. and oh, i did not damage the flower just to capture the normally hidden part in one of the pic below; someone else did it - one of the monkeys, perhaps?

and the late morning sun cast an interesting shadow of myself on the ground...

and lastly, a pattern on a plant's stem - reminds me of the thing sun wu kong wears on his head, plus there's a lot of monkeys there...

Walkabout • Penang Hill

random photos taken while enjoying a relaxing stroll on top of penang hill, amidst the cool morning air...

a star-like white bloom, bordered by the greeneries surrounding it...

a butterfly that fluttered out of nowhere into view, and stayed just long enough for a snap...

the many colorful flowers and leaves strewn around on the tarred road...

a faraway view of penang bridge, against a backdrop of painting-like mountain range...

and the orderly patterns of semi-transparent webbings spun by a tiny creature amongst a tree's foliage.

Sunrise • Penang Hill

view of a gloomy sunrise from the top of penang hill...

the first train up penang hill starts at 6:30am. or so said the schedule. 6:30 my ass... the counter wasn't open till 6:40, and the first train only depart after 6:45. not that it mattered, cos the mist was soo thick up there that the sun wasn't even visible one bit till quite late... kinda expected that though, as it rained quite heavily prior.

A Plateful of Potato Wedges

was planning to make mashed potato actually, but then, laziness crept in... and i chose a faster way - fry it. coated with a thin layer of tempura batter to get a golden brown look. yummy, yummy...

one bite into a piece... shit, for the nth time, i forgot to add some sodium while cooking. sigh...

Permatang Damar Laut, Penang

permatang damar laut is a small fishing village located south of penang island. near the police station here is a hiking trail that skirts the hillside area, fronting the straits of malacca. the trail recently underwent upgrading works, seeing the trail paved with cement. it was also featured in TheStar not long ago.

midway along the trail lies a small beach, which is not so clean, with rubbish strewn around here and there... wait a minute, shouldn't i be describing it's beauty instead? :p

some fungi growing on decaying cconut tree trunks:

at the end of the trail is a small tua pek kong temple, with a small fish pond. proof that i hike till the end of the trail, ha ha...

actually, i was planning to go somewhere for shooting photos of sunrise. but ended up i was busy warming the bed while the sun inches up... oh well, maybe next time..
