of a cat

unidentified cat having a nap under the shade of my car on a hot sunny afternoon.

a few weeks ago, i found a rotten, maggot-infested foul-smelling dead body of a big rat on my front yard, and i had wondered why would a rat die at such an open space like that - poisoned? and today i found a torn plastic bag at the same spot - not sure what's inside though, didn't bother to find out. and i saw the cat. ah...

anyway, bugger scampered off suspiciously soon as he heard the shutter sound. gah... guess that's a downside to using an slr.

untitled

not in the mood to step out from the house today, but the camera is going to start sporting spider webs soon, so... random photos from simply pointing the lens out from the window; blue background is from a vehicle parked nearby. the early morning sun always cast interesting glows on random things.

from the few times using the super-takumar 200mm f4, i must say that i don't quite like the colors from this lens - they look washed out and lacking contrast (the 2 photos here have been quick-tweaked in Picasa). the lens also has a greater tendency to overexpose badly compared to the other takumars that i have - so much that i have to switch to manual mode because the EV compensation is not even enough. i'm not sure... am i doing something wrong?

eye on malaysia @melaka

had a few hours to kill while awaiting to attend a dinner function at night, and not sure where to go. originally had wanted to take a ride up the new 'taming sari' tower, but the lack of parking and snaking queue drove us away. and we ended up at the ferris wheel instead...

didn't get a chance to visit this while it was originally sited at the titiwangsa lake in kl, and now it has been bought over by the melaka state and is permanently sited at the rivermouth of melaka river.

it has just started operating here around a month ago, and the whole area is obviously not properly spruced up yet, with bare earth surfaces abound. the view from up above is nothing to shout about too. artificial reclaimed lands, elevated road that rivals the ride in height, the new ugly 'keris' tower nearby, and rows of uniform reddish industrial-looking roofing of the nearby shophouses are definitely not my ideas of must-sees in the proclaimed historical city. oh well... maybe it's just me that's already familiar with this city...

ticket price for malaysians is $10 per person. and i ain't got no pretty girl to model for me for the photo below, so... sometimes you've got to get down and dirty yourself. please excuse yours truly for spoiling your appetite. j/k.

a (blurry) red cherry

taken using a combination of smc takumar 55mm f1.8 and vivitar 2x-8 teleconverter. the cheapo vivitar teleconverter (it came with the 55mm takumar) produces loads of chromatic abberations, yet i still regularly use it for close-ups as it's definitely more convenient to use rather than fumbling with various extension tubes; plus it keeps infinity focus too. it essentially turns the 55mm f1.8 into 110mm f3.5 (2-stop reduction) equivalent while keeping the 55mm's 45cm min focus distance.

thinking back, the kit lens - with IS and 25cm min focus distance - will probably produce sharper photos in the same condition; but hey, the takumars are more fun to use...
